Women Dancing, 2004

Einat Amir performs a well-known Israeli folk song in order to create a complex discussion of femininity.  The “optimistic words” describe women of different age groups, and their traditional roles in the reproductive chain.  In Amir's performance, the words turn into a queer seduction song and a melodramatic, complex drag that crosses butch toughness with emotional fragility.
